The original recipe was first introduced over a century ago by a New Orleans store owner, Emile Zatarain.

Locals quickly took to the concentrate partly due to ingredients thought to be of great hygienic value, they would buy like crazy!

Therefore, it soon became a staple in the homes of countless families in and around New Orleans who wanted to brew their own root beer at home.

Following the success of his concentrate, Emile started marketing other products.

Some of which are still around today, such as his creole mustard.

Emile Zatarain’s root beer extract would soon start a snowball effect, as a result, the company is now known worldwide!

With the hectic life of society, today home cooks long for recipes that are quick and easy.

However, not all quick and easy recipes result in something tasty.

The original recipe is quick, easy, and most importantly, delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cups of water
  • 3/4 cups of sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of Zatarain’s Root Beer Extract
  • 1 liter of Seltzer water or Club Soda (refrigerated)

In a medium saucepan, bring water to boil.

Secondly, add sugar and stir frequently until dissolved.

Next, add the extract and stir until completely mixed.

Then, let cool and refrigerate.

Once, you’re ready to serve, pour the mixture into a pitcher and slowly pour in the seltzer water or club soda.

Lastly, enjoy immediately to stop your homemade root beer from becoming flat.

Tip:

We mix the root beer in an airtight container.

As a result, the carbonation doesn’t escape as easily and stays fresh longer.
